Problems Of Food Addiction

Tags: , ,

Strange to say but some people are addicted to food. Once you're addicted, your health is also involved. Food addiction is a disorder that can be described as the anticipation of pleasure from the things that you're eating. Your mind is fully occupied by food and having a lot of it.

It involves the repetition of doing it which is more than enough compared to ordinary people and your eating habit is already beyond your control. When you're suffering from this addiction, you have a powerful desire for a particular food. The desire is too strong that if you are incapable of consuming it, you suffer from withdrawal symptoms such as headaches, vomiting and depression.

Food addicts crave for the satisfaction that a particular food can give them. Their desire for it may be both physical and psychological. There are different varieties of this addiction. The first one is compulsive overeating. Someone who eats too much and that can last for several days. The addict may sometimes lose weight but they tend to gain it back again.

The symptoms include compulsive eating alone, eating quickly and they eat though they are not hungry. Bulimia is another form of addiction in which the person is overeating then purge themselves to vomit or take some medicine. There are some signs of this condition. One is isolating themselves when they eat, try to consume huge amounts of it rapidly and be preoccupied with their weight.

Another addiction could be in the form of anorexia. In this case, somebody attempts to starve themselves in order to achieve visionary weight. They tend to be fifteen percent below normal body weight and they're really afraid of gaining weight. They will encounter some problems when they're eating with other people and it appears that they're obsessed with their body measurement.

A lot of people suffer from depression because of this condition. The good news about this is that it could be successfully cured. The treatment can come in different forms. Patients may consult a psychotherapist to develop new methods in dealing with it and their emotions. The therapist may identify the source of the patient's fear and anger.

These are the common reasons why they became addicted. In the majority of cases, the psychologist will help them develop a treatment plan which can explain clearly about their expectations and goals. Treatment often involves helping the patient to return to their healthy eating methods, dealing with the basic emotional cause of addiction and learning some effective ways on how to cope.

They often follow the systematic program used by alcoholics. They have to accept their powerlessness over the problem and they have to admit their faults and failures. People should know how to balance their life. Your emotional desire for independence, new relationships, and the meaning of your life is attached to food.

It is entirely possible that addiction can never be cured but it can be treated. In short, the recovery of patients can last a lifetime. With patient and with time, individual addicts are able to keep their weight under control.
