Controlling Your Sugar Addiction

Most people could become addicted to several things. It is called sugar when a person craves sweet foods. It is a physical and psychological craving. Eating sweets like candies, cakes and cookies are not the only way to add a large amount of sugar to your diet. Breads, snacks and pastas made with white flour are processed carbs that turn to sugar in your body. This kind of diet could lead to all kinds of diseases like diabetes, digestive problems, heart disease and even certain cancers. There is also evidence that memory, focus and concentration may be affected. Depression, anxiety and phobias are some emotional imbalances that can be related or connected to this addiction.

The down part of it is that the good feeling does not last long. In short, you go from being very energetic to feeling tired. You may have tried because you wanted to avoid illnesses or you wanted to lose weight. This may trigger some withdrawal symptoms as some drug addicts go through. Some symptoms are trembling, weakness, sweating and dizziness. Sugar dependency is among the similar lines as addiction to alcohol, smoking or gambling. It causes an immediate gratification making the person that’s addicted feel like they cannot live without it. Sugar increases serotonin production in the human brain, something like anti-depressants.



One of the ways that you could tell if you are addicted to it is an extreme need to eat it. Once you already consume enough of it, your anxiety alleviates. There is still hope for overcoming and stopping this kind of addiction. First, you have to recognize and admit to yourself that you have a problem. Anything or something that tastes too good and makes you feel better would make it difficult for you to think there is anything wrong. Replace your caffeinated drink with herbal tea or juice. Caffeine would cause your blood sugar to go down. During the day, eat small portions of complex carbohydrates.

This would keep your stomach satisfied. Vegetables, fruits, grains, wheat and rice are filled with nutrients. You would feel fuller longer because they are digested at a slower rate. Make sure you have enough protein and complex carbohydrates. You can begin your day by eating a balanced diet by having a balanced breakfast. This would lessen your cravings and keep up your blood sugar level later on in the day. Do not try to fool yourself into thinking that raw or brown sugar is fine to eat. Raw sugar is refined and crystallized white sugar. It has a tiny amount of molasses added to it.

Brown sugar is only made brown because molasses are also added to it—it is still regular sugar. These types are also not healthy for your body. Water could help in controlling your cravings; it contains many minerals and is necessary for . Water is an essential key in total wellness. Drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water everyday. Think of another healthy alternative whenever you feel an intense craving for sweets coming on. Take one-step at a time and you would eventually reach that goal.
