*********************************************************************

When you look at a certain object - a painting
for example - you won’t be able to appreciate
what is going on inside the painting, what
its message is, the emotion the painter is
trying to convey, if the painting is about an
inch from your face.

Why?

Simply because when you see things that
close you don't tend to see the bigger picture
- how the little things are connected and interact
with one another.

But step back a little and you start to see the
bigger picture so to speak.

Step back a little more and you eventually see
how even the painting itself has a relationship
with the wall and the room where it is hung.

We often reach a point in our life where we
are ready for change and where a good amount
of information and catalysts are there waiting
for us to unlock our self improvement powers
yet, alas, we are not able to take advantage
of it.

It could be something that's literally staring
us in the face or right under our nose but
because we are too close we don’t see it.

Unfortunately, the only time we think of unlocking
our self improvement power is when everything
in our life has already gotten worst.

Use this as an hypothetical example. I say
hypothetical because I don't want you to
actually go ahead and do it.

Well anyway pretend there's a pot of boiling
water. Now pretend for some extreme reason
you figured you would dip your hand into that
pot of boiling water.

What happens?

You will probably scream and would probably
jerk your hand away right?

Of course you will unless you want your hand
to be burned.

Keep that in mind as we proceed. Now imagine
a pot of normal room water. Again dip our
hand in it and then turn up the heat.

What happens?

Nothing much because it started in room
temperature. Only when a certain level of
heat and water temperature will you notice
the heat and then react by pulling your hand
away.

The point I'm making, and probably not in a
good way is that for the most part we are those
that would only remove our hand once we reach
that certain "boiling point" where we can't bear
it anymore before we do anything.

It's like waiting until you realize that everyone
in your class hates you before you do anything
to change that perception.

Usually by the time you are able to do anything
it's already too late.

What do you take away from this?

The fact that as human beings we tend to
learn our lessons only when we experience
some sort of pain or something like that.

We only finally see the warning signs and
signals when things get rough and tough -
and maybe a little to late.

Don't believe me. Then let me ask you this:
when do de realize that you need to go on
a diet?

Isn't it when you realize that none of your jeans
won't fit you anymore.

Or when some of your friends mistake you
for being pregnant or make light jokes about
how you look.

Or this question: when do you realize that
you need to stop smoking?

When you find out your lungs are filled with
black tar and you already have throat or lung
cancer?

Come on, with a few exceptions that's typically
how things play out.

Basically, the only time most of us ever learn
about unlocking our self improvement power
is when things are already falling apart and the
whole world is crashing around us.

Why are we like this?

Because we think to change ourselves is
hard. I'm sure you've felt that way.

The thing we don't think about is that when
the change is forced upon us because of the
circumstances it becomes that more painful
versus if we had voluntarily changed in the
first place.

Whether you like it or not, change will happen.
At any point of your life you will go through
a turning points in your life – one that will
make you decide whether to unlock your
self improvement power because you want
to, with your own key or have it unlocked
forcefully by a crowbar.

Happy and well balanced people don’t just
accept change, they embrace it.

You don’t have to feel a tremendous amount
of heat before realizing the need for self improvement.

Unlocking your self improvement power means
unlocking yourself from the cage of thought
that says “it's just the way I am”.

This is just a poor excuse for those who fear
and resist change.

Self improvement may not be your favorite
word, but if you look at things from a different
perspective you might have a greater chance
of enjoying the whole process instead of counting
the days until we are fully improved.

And when you're enjoying the whole process
of unlocking your self improvement power,
you’ll realize that you’re actually liking the
new you.

And you'll notice it by the way you like yourself
and by the ways others like you too.

And for more on how you can further improve
yourself look below.

Check out my catalog here.

Work on yourself early and you'll be the better
person for it.
