Provide A Safe Harbor For Creative Ideas

Tags: , ,

Ideas are the initial and starting points of creativity. In the absence of a primary spark of an idea, then there can be no creativity. Therefore, ideas are truly indispensable to us as creative individuals. There is a common fallacy or misunderstanding about not having sufficient insights or concepts though.

The problem is not precisely that you don't have enough insights. It is just that you do not get to CAPTURE enough ideas. See, the glaring difference? So do you feel you have ample creative ideas for your projects? Or the lack of it is one of the main reasons you feel you're not be able to be more artistic? Well then, fret not because you are not alone.

As a matter of fact, it is one of the greatest issues most creative persons constantly struggle with, not having ample insights to build and develop. Visualize your creative mind as a harbor at the verge of the sea. And all day and all night, there are ships that sail by searching for a safe and secure location to dock.

In a way, these ships are like the creative ideas, continuously rushing and surging, and just waiting for a place to dock and settle in. And in these ships, the passengers are looking for an area where they could rest, relax and refresh themselves. What most of us do with these concepts or ideas is also the counterpart of having our harbor closed already, with a big sign that states: “Just sail along my pals, you are not welcome here...” So they will just continue to sail on, and instead, look for somewhere safe, inviting and where they will be welcomed to dock.

The insights or thoughts simply pass before you have even seen them up close and personal, thus, you are left once again wondering and complaining that you do not have enough good and creative ideas. However, what if you have a sign on your harbor that says, “Hey, everyone’s welcome and invited here, so just sail in and replenish yourselves in this wonderful and welcoming world of ours.” Now, that would make quite a huge difference, isn’t it? You will welcome every idea like you would a long-lost friend, make it more comfy, offer it with a bed and hot meal, then treat it like royalty.

So what you will do then is to welcome every ship, and all the richness and variety of its passengers and crew, to improve and diversify your harbor town. What will also take place is that your image and reputation for being a friendly and accommodating harbor will scatter to other ships.

The more thoughts and insights you welcome and gather, the more insights are attracted or drawn to you. Then, you will be known here and there as a secure and caring area to dock. The secret ingredient to having more creative ideas than you would ever need is simple: be more open to the ideas which are in everything that surrounds you, capture them as they strike, before they sail again, never to be perceived again.
