Cultivating the right positive attitude is everything, may I say. And why not—since our happiness is at stake here, we might as well incorporate the power of positive thinking. And you don’t even need some coaching just to attain your goals. And I’m not talking about that short-lived and momentary change wherein you make a New Year’s resolution, just to break them the next day. Well, I’m talking about the positive attitude that lasts and that you’re willing to suffer the process just to get to your desired results. Let’s say for example, you want to get through your weight loss regimen, or diet and you’re willing to go the extra mile and just to lose that excess poundage. Well, you got to assist the Law of Attraction and do your part. It’s the challenge and change you simply can’t resist. You want happiness? Right on—so have that positive attitude! Aside from being inspired by those motivational sayings, enough with your lame excuses, alibis and justifying your bad habits. You need ample amount of motivation to amplify that positive attitude. Let’s get started: 1) Just think that today is a new day and it’s free! It doesn’t cost you a cent and tomorrow, and the next day after tomorrow, and so on. Fantastic, what a fun way to start your day with a positive attitude. 2) Don’t waste your time since this day is free; make the most of this instead, and this will be your first test. You need to generate that motivation to change. 3) If you really want it that bad, then go ahead and get pissed—you have the right to feel so. How many days, weeks or months have you wasted all along and not doing anything with meeting your goals? And why haven’t you made that big change before earlier in your life? Don’t tell me you’re settling for less? Come on, you now you can do better than that! Got only one life to live—happiness is at stake, remember that. Time is one thing you can’t have again once it’s wasted. Therefore, want it so bad—that’s your motivation. 4) Form new habits and stick to your plans of change; it can be to your diet plan or exercise regimen. For example, you want to start your first test of workout at 7AM. Get off that bed and get ready and suffer through it. For more motivation, have a friend to suffer with you. And don’t give me that half-baked performance or rationalizing mindset like, “Well, at least I got up early out of bed, it’s better than not doing anything at all.” Enough with it! Tell yourself, that you got up today with the first and best workout session of your life! And make good at it—invest in that mindset. Once upon a time, there’s a man so successful and happy that people far and wide came to him asking him how he did it. They ask him how he can be so blessed. They point to his loving family, his great job, his financial abundance, to his fantastic friends. And even any curious soul would indeed ask the same things. And he answered, “Just keep planting.” Yes, keep planting seeds—that’s his theory. For him, there are 2 seasons in the universe—the planting season, and the harvest season. What the curious people don’t know, is that this successful and happy man they admire and envy at the same time is actually just like some of us—who dreamed, who labored, who struggled and who persisted. For 35 years, he was still in planting season. Now, he was reaping the fruits of his labor. Now, he’s at the harvest season of his life. For years, he keep planting and never gives up until he succeeded. It was at those moments in his life he was faced with hardships and suffering, but he never wavered in his faith. In short, planting season is about chasing after the blessings, while harvest season is about blessings chasing after you—if you don’t quit. So how to get to harvest—you may ask. First, just keep planting even if you see no visible results—yet. Just like some of us, maybe you’ve been looking for a job for so long, but still, there’s nothing in sight. That’s okay—don’t give up looking and applying anyway. Or perhaps you’ve been dying to find that true love of your life, but you always end up with a broken heart. Never mind—never be jaded and keep on dating and looking for The One. Or perhaps you’re struggling on your finances, but you’re still in debt. Never lose heart—keep trying and working on it. Some of us think that if we keep planting, we’ll harvest. But alas, that’s not how it works. You got to keep planting and never giving up…and then you’ll harvest. But don’t forget also that you need to plant your seeds in the suitable environment—for if you have the right seeds planted in the wrong environment, there’s still no harvest to look forward to. Hearing other people’s woes and giving solutions to their problems are sometimes mind draining especially when it’s beyond my scope of expertise anymore. Just this day, a lady came to my office just to tell that I’m no good right at my face. She referred those words to me without batting an eyelash. My initial reaction was shock and I wondered why she came up with that conclusion without further ado. So I asked her and get her reason and hear her side of the story. I tried to keep my cool and dealing with this kind of people is still part of my job. I have encountered different kinds of personalities and was able to manage them well by having a positive mood. Opposing reactions like this is unavoidable since we can’t please everyone. She said I’m not effective as a Coach. I was partly hurt when she said that I was not good on my field but I realized that this is the perfect time to practice what I preach. I always encourage my clients on how to deal with negative emotions. I, too, encountered some of it everyday and I have my fair share of it. Although I’m a Self-Improvement Coach, I also feel negative feelings such as fear, anger, sadness and frustrations to which I just replace with a positive mood that I have gradually learned from all of my experiences. I am just an ordinary person who is also going through with this kind of emotions. There’s no exemption in having this for this is the way our body reacts to situations. While I’m having these thoughts, the lady in front of me has already walked out. She was already gone and I was not aware of it. The lady’s bad remarks towards me are also a reflection of what she feels inside. I know she has some issues with herself that affects her to have a positive mood. I was not able to explain to her my side and defend myself. Well, I’m having a bad day and I don’t want to get it through my nerves. We have no control on the reactions of others because it’s their own. I then smiled; I have to remind that to myself everyday to maintain a positive mood. It just came from our mouth without thinking the effect of it to others. The weight of your words hurt more than an actual wound. You will suffer temporarily from the sting you feel in a cut and the discomfort just goes away after it was healed but the effect of scathing remark sticks in your mind and the pain goes on and on. The healing process is so slow and your suffering is too long to endure. Your recovery is unsure. The weight of words prolonged effect is like a big blow that hits harder than a wound or any physical misery. A simple remark could greatly disturb you that could trigger some manifestations in your system and unlike wound, it could also manifest if left untreated but not as distressing compared to it. The weight of words affects your emotions. The contents of it duplicates to your feelings. You can test this to yourself to see the validity of these statements. Use yourself as an object for this experiment. Let’s think of a certain moment in your life that you were sad, angry, depressed, frustrated and any other negative feelings such as hate and disgust to know the weight of your words. If you can still remember it, before you feel those unpleasant feelings, what were your thoughts? And where does the content of your thoughts came from? As we try to trace it, it’s the weight of WORDS that compose the inside of your mind that comes to you after you uttered those. On the other hand, remember the moments that made you feel happy and excited. Of course, you may think of something that had happened to you that made you happy. A situation is just plain until you put meaning to it and feel the weight of words. A person may interpret differently from others depending on what he is thinking like that half full, half empty glass philosophy that was used to differentiate a pessimist from an optimist. The object that was used is the same but the interpretation that came from both people is different. The weight of words is also the same to you as to other people. It could also spark different emotions from them depending on the kind of remarks you are giving whether it’s good or bad. So you can also create these feelings basing only on the kind of what you say to others. You also create an impression from this. People will judge you half from what they hear from you. If you noticed, the things that you remember the most are the things that you experienced when you were still a child. In your young mind, those particular events in your life are registered vividly in your memory. You can’t forget those things when you were ridiculed by your peers, scolded by your father and mother, insulted by other people and the bad events that had happened to you.It’s hard to have positive thoughts when you are in the face of pain or difficulty. But if you are able to trace the root cause of your issue, you can reprogram your negative thinking to positive thoughts. You have to clear the issues with yourself by clarifying what’s in your thoughts. As you get to know the cause, you can attack the real problem. It’s like after a doctor diagnosed the disease after a series of test, he will be able to give the right medicine to cure the disease. It needs a daily practice to change your pessimism to positive thoughts. You cannot master that in a day. Experiences whether good or bad has an effect to us. It could trigger negative or positive feelings. We cannot avoid negative events to happen and automatically most of us will have negative perception in this situation. You need to direct your mindset to positive insight especially in times like this for your own benefit. Negative thinking will not help you with this.To convert your negative intuition to positive thoughts, always think of winning no matter how bad things are. You have the power to control your mind on what you will feel by simply directing your thoughts. Unconsciously, you act out the things that are constant in your mind. For example, If you think of having your dream job, since you really wanted that job and it’s always on your mind, you will likely get the job. Your desire to have that job is the one that keeps you going to achieve your goal. It’s like a fuel that ignites your motivation to find the ways to get the job.If negativity crowds your mind, replace it by positive thoughts. So, how do you say things to yourself, or how do you explain some stuff to yourself? What do you think—with positive self talk or negative self talk? Think about it---though it can be convenient to tell yourself “I can’t do it”, “no way”, “that’s way out of the question”, and “another problem again”, do you think these statements can be helpful to you? Given below are just some of the typical examples that optimistic and pessimistic individuals usually say. Try to observe the glaring difference, and try to do some positive self talk exercises, if you haven’t yet. Here now are some of the common examples of positive self talk. Okay for instance, when optimistic or positive people try to explain bad stuff or situations, they externalize them—“the traffic caused it”, view them as separated—“that portion of the diet did not work, but…”, and think of them as just temporary—“that was a difficult day”. However, whenever they expound on the good side of the situation, these people try internalizing stuff. For example, they may say, “Wow, life is good!” Then, they tend to draw inferences from them—“My life is working out for the better”, and finally, they think of them to be somewhat lasting changes—“Now, I know how to work this out”. Some of the most common positive self talk: “Yeah it rained, but the whole travel was still enjoyable.” “I know I can do this; I’ve done this before.” “It only went bad because of the traffic.” “This is by far one of the great parties I’ve been.” “It was quite difficult during that moment.” Examples of negative self talk. “That business proposal was good, not like mine.” “Damn, I failed AGAIN.” “That did great, I think…” “I always screw up whenever I have a date.” “This fun will not last…count on it.” See the difference now? When pessimistic persons describe bad things, they try to internalize them—“Oh no, it’s my fault again”, generalize them—“Everything is a mess”, and think of them as fixed and long-lasting—“It always happens like this”. And what about when they expound on the good stuff? That’s the time they externalize—“Well, that was just sheer luck, really”, they view them only in a particular setting or situation—“Now at least, this one I got it right.” And think of them as not permanent—“That is good, for now.” Now that you noticed that difference, don’t you think that you’d better switch to positive self talk instead? From now on, strive to explain stuff to yourself in a different manner, and there you’ll also see (and feel) a brand new difference in your mindset and attitude today. Articles, books and magazine were written about it, and were also featured on several talk shows. Yes, I know maybe most if not, some of us are pretty doubting Thomases when the talk focuses on the power of positive thoughts. Well, personally, I believe in it and you can always choose what you believe since it is a free country, anyway. As they say, it all begins in your mind. So you might as well think positive thoughts to attract all the positivity and happy energies you can. That is what the Law of Attraction is all about—trying to attract what you want to make it happen. Therefore, in order for you to attract or manifest what you want, why not focus on the positive thoughts, right? And while we’re at it, let us examine some ways and techniques on how to think more on the bright side of life. First step—assess and analyze what your thinking pattern is like since you know yourself more than any other human being on this planet. Usually, what kind of thoughts do you normally think of? Is it concentrated more on the positive or negative side? To do this, sit back and relax and find a quiet space at your own convenience with just a pen and paper and begin to reflect about your accomplishments, your dreams and your life in general. Then, jot down the negative ones on one side of the paper and the positive thoughts on the other side. After that, look at the negative thinking and scrutinize them to discover why you were thinking them in the first place. Observe at those negative thoughts and then ask yourself why do I feel this way? And what caused me to feel this way? Next, substitute on every pessimistic thought with something positive. Try writing down the thoughts you like to substitute with affirmative and constructive ones. The instant you begin to feel having that destructive mindset arising within you, just try to change it with a constructive one. So keep your inventory of constructive and positive daily thoughts in handy all the time. The technique here is perseverance and patience and more patience. You can do this for a month and you would feel your thinking pattern and the way you view things can change and eventually, your life can be improved for the better. This inventory of your positive thoughts is a must-read before going to bed at night since the human brain could absorb it better. In the end, all you have to do is believe in the power of the human mind. Instead of focusing on the negativity hounding us, we can always look for positivity and inspiration in our lives and maintaining a healthy outlook in life.
