The Effortless Guide To Setting Personal Goals

Tags: , ,

Of course, it’s only human nature to think and aspire the best for themselves. Setting personal goals is good and makes us more disciplined so that we can identify and zero in on what we really aim for. Well, it’s not only at the beginning of a year (creating New Year’s Resolutions—only to break them days after) or the turning of a new season (“This summer I hope to...”) that we must set our personal goals.

In fact, your goal setting doesn’t require a special occasion or season for it to commence. You can start now—well for starters, for this year alone, (though it’s a little late—hey, don’t set deadlines to your goals!) try to think about what you really, really want for yourself. And not just about what may please others or what you should want.

Think about yourself for once—imagine a little, think bigger. Welcome all thoughts and ideas which make you smile, makes you live happily, revving up that “fire in the belly”. Then, place your attention on those stuff that you want for yourself for these remaining months of the year. Envision yourself already doing that—living in that moment! Now, hold that scene glued to your mind---practice this daily! Creative visualization is a strong instrument of attraction when it comes to setting personal goals.

After this, now comes the action part; decide to go and get it! Choose to have what you want not tomorrow, later or someday—but NOW! For more effective results, write down at least 3 things you want. Begin with the words, “I plan to...” instead of “I like”, “I hope”, “I wish”, “I long for”—which sound too indecisive or uncertain.

Making that firm decision with unequivocal declarations marks your dedication to success. As you move forward with your personal goals, your first months may be given to doing some personal discovery, introspection and researching. For instance, your goal is to augment your income, then try looking for other alternatives to make more dough, or making use of your creative talents as a sideline (an emcee or a host for a day, perhaps).

Finally, when we talk about personal goals, invest in yourself, invest in your impending success. Develop both your personal and professional life by being constantly motivated, reading self-help books, be with positive people as much as you can, and hey, browsing innerzine.com (both articles and forums) can be a big help also since this site is for self-improvement.

Or if you can, hire a coach—and don’t make that excuse of “no money” or “can’t afford” mindset. Remember that you have to invest in something to get what you want, to reap the fruits of your labor. Effort is the key—nothing in this life is free anymore. And be ready for change.

Let go of your feelings of ambivalence (and fear) about change since it’s the only thing that’s permanent in our lives. Being fearful generates worry, anxiety and a lot of uncertainty to go on with your personal goals. Instead of feeling uncertain, refer back to your past triumphs and accomplishments to inspire you.
