What’s Your Inspirational Story?

Tags: , ,

Growing up, we all have our own inspirational short stories to tell. Well, I have this inspirational story to share with you and this is just a simple tale (not about love, or relationship or seeking your therapist blah-blah). Today’s blog is all about simplicity in happiness—a simple yet meaningful inspirational story about asking yourself if you’re feeling good with what you’re holding on…or is it making you sad? This inspirational story I read somewhere is about a young boy who was given a toy robot for his birthday.

This kid thought that it was the toy he was ever going to have all his life so he guarded it with his life. Day in and day out, he looked at it lovingly coupled with a longing he never had before. Because as much as he wants it so bad, he also have a fear of losing or destroying it that he never played with it.

So what he did was keep it in safety—in his closet. He can only enjoy it when he opened the closet and look or touch it. One day, he saw some of his classmates in his school playing and some of them brought their toys and two of his friends brought their toy robots.

The boy saw how happy these kids playing with their toys and in contrast, he felt sad. So when he went home, he opened his closet and looked at his Transformers robot with melancholy. One day, he can no longer contain his excitement that he got his robot and played with it.

While playing with it, he was more even conscious of protecting and guarding it than enjoying with it. He just has a fear of scratching it that he forgot to enjoy his play time. This inspirational story is teaching us not to miss out on the whole purpose of the blessings that come in our way.

The things that give us happiness—enjoyment! If we think about it, the more we place some emotional attachments or keep holding on to some material things, the more we fail to experience their entire purpose. We spend most of our time (and energy) guarding our material possessions that we fail to use them for their function, let alone enjoy them.

This inspirational story makes us realize that when we learn to finally unfasten ourselves from the things that we hold on and try to enjoy them, only then can we learn to be free and enjoy life more! Everyone’s got an inspirational story of some sort. How about you---what’s your inspirational story?
