Find Out What Leadership Styles Work For You

Tags: , ,

Leadership styles can come in many forms but there are three different leadership styles which are commonly applied in every organization. Usually, effective and competent leaders make use of various techniques and they just don’t adhere to one style depending on the current situation and market trends. When it comes to differing situations and circumstances, it’s only natural that you adopt and adjust to a different method or style.

For you to choose from the varied leadership styles, first you have to know and identify just how urgent or crucial the decision is. Also, you have to know your people well, if they got the goods or potential to become good decision makers and if they have what it takes to be efficient leaders as well.

So you have to take note of the working experiences of your people or team members to assess their qualifications and eligibility. Okay, now let us talk about the different leadership styles and find out if which one belongs to you. One style of leadership is the delegating style. These days, this is by far the most accepted and well-known approach when it comes to leadership.

In this style, the people would evaluate, examine and eventually come up with their own decisions. Even if this is so, still the leader got to set the goal himself which is most general and common to the people, which in turn allow them to make their own decisions. This is also the most powerful and compelling technique, so to speak.

Therefore, it is still the leader’s liability and he will be held accountable if something goes awry with the final decision being made. Hence, it is of utmost critical concern that the people selected as decision makers must be good contenders. Then, there’s also the dictating style—one of the first and primary methods in leadership styles.

In this kind of leadership, it’s more likely to get your team to contribute or share with less feedback. Why—it’s because the staff or members never really feel motivated when someone dictates on them, generally speaking. In a way, the team will not likely develop or progress. Actually, this kind of method is most ideal or suitable if the team or organization is already experienced and matured.

If it is, a command simply gets the members to carry out the goals being targeted by the organization. Yet another type of leadership is the democratic style. This in fact includes the staff in generating and coming up with the decisions, however, only up to a certain level. It’s also one level succeeding the dictatorial approach.

It also enables the members to share their feedback and allows more participation and cooperation within the whole organization prior to the leader making the ultimate say, hence, the final decision. And there you have it folks—the three most common and usual leadership styles that are widely used these days.

So, which one do you think is applicable to you and your team to advance the organization to improvement?
