 Throughout history, there have been many definitions of what leadership is all about. There are some individuals who think that leaders are determined by their performance when they are given the responsibility of being a leader. Some people think that governance is pushed by the drive of need and that leadership qualities arise when the situation calls for it.
While some theories relate leadership with particular characteristics that could be observed even right from childhood. However, there are 5 leadership qualities which stand out. 1. The followers—this is possibly the most significant of all the leadership qualities. A person can’t be considered a leader if he has no followers; for what will he be leading? Precisely, there really have to be followers in order for there to be leaders.

A leader with no followers is only a lonely, arrogant man. His followers make a leader and bring him status—followers define a leader. 2. The Will—being the chief entails a big deal of responsibility and authority. A leader should have the will to utilize his abilities. Even if there are some circumstances that might lunge someone into being a leader, that individual would not be leader unless he or she is willing.
This is one of the essential leadership qualities which determines the continuance of one’s governance. A willing leader will be able to forge himself far beyond his or other people’s expectations in order to attain a goal. Also, this leadership quality ascertains the degree of how a leader will utilize their skills and capacities to reach the goal of the whole community.
3. The Influence—one of the major leadership qualities is the capability of influencing others. The capacity to influence others has been manifested in so many ways. This influence is sometimes brough out in order to accomplish a particular objective. Many successful leaders try to influence their subordinates by proving that following their instructions could benefit the whole.
These leaders retain their status because they have proven that they’re able to inititiate the progress of their team. Yet some have exercised fear and tyranny just to have their people do whatever they want. This technique might seem effective at the onset, but actually, this won’t do good for the long term.
Leaders who rely only on their strength to force others would only sooner or later grow feeble and his authority would be lost. Therefore, it’s truly uderstood that influence is one of the vital leadership qualities. 4. The Purpose—individuals become leaders so that they can achieve goals. However, having goals is not just enough.
Leaders need to have purpose; he would not blindly lead his or her followers to attain an objective without meaning. Just like saying that leaders can’t direct or guide their followers if they have no idea whatsoever where to direct their herd. 5. The Special Ability—leaders lead because there is a certain quality in them which let them manage a problem if their followers can’t face the problems on their own.
This leadership quality is extremely important becuase if the leaders do not possess some special ability, then there won’t be anything that will distinguish him from his followers.
