How do we maintain our fountain of youth and hold on to our youthful glow? That's the question most people want some answers or even just tips. Previously, we talked about beauty and being beautiful more than just skin-deep. Now, how about beating Father time and staying young if we can help it? Though we can't turn back the hands of time when it comes to aging process, how to stay young is not impossible if only we opt for healthy choices in food and lifestyle.
1) Staying young is also about staying strong. Exercise and keep those muscles working to build strong bones so that they don't break easily. Regular exercise (especially cardiovascular exercise) also makes your heart muscles strong and healthy. Being physically active and healthy helps you in your quest of staying young. advertisement
If you think about it, broken bones and aching hearts (literally) makes you feel old. And besides, staying young is synonymous with maintaining your independence with mundane stuff like opening jars and carrying bags on your own.
2) Quit--for good. I recently read somewhere a mother advising her coming-of-age child not to smoke, "because there will come a time that it will be the most difficult thing you're going to do in your life." But it's not too late to quit if you already started smoking. Smoking per se amplifies free radicals--that lead to cell death, and it damages you lungs.
3) Chomp on lots of your colorful veggies, especially those rich in beta-carotene. By eating fish twice a week you can get enough Omega-3 and Omega-6 into your body. It helps cells become more absorptive and has been shown to be an essential part of cells in blood vessels and skin.
Well, which means that they also aid with wrinkles.
4) Staying young is also about thinking and practicing your brain cells. Go ahead--try those crossword puzzles, have fun with Scrabble and Word Factory, give your best shot at Sudoku, play chess again, etc. Whatever it is which makes your brain moving and exercising. Better yet, you can read some interesting books to gain information and insights on just about anything.
Lastly, staying young is all in your mind. You may be 60, but if in your heart you're just a youthful 20-something, then it doesn't really matter. It's a state of mind--look young , feel young.
