With the comforting help of a partner, it’s more convenient how to give a massage. Let’s face it—after a stressful day at work, getting a good one can ease your pain. So if you want a relaxing rubdown, some back massage techniques can help you. First and foremost, some essentials to get you started: some soft cushions/pillows, towels to lie on, massage oil (a baby oil can also suffice, for starters), floor mat/massage table (or any comfy surface will do) and of course, a quiet and relaxed ambiance.
Some of the back massages techniques to help you: 1) Remember that the lesser the oil, the deeper the pressure applied and the better the friction. When you apply pressure with your thumb or finger, supply ample support with your other thumb and fingers—so that you prevent wearing out your thumbs.

2) Try using slower movements for a calming and consoling response from your patient. Speaking of which, ask your patient every now and then for feedback. Ask him how he’s feeling. If he’s comfy enough or if he’s fine with the way you’re massaging his body. Back massage techniques are also about the patient’s comfort coming in first.
Otherwise, what’s the whole point the massage if the person you’re massaging feels more discomfort, right? 3) Cover some parts of the body not being worked on with a soft and warm towel/cloth. 4) Don’t pour the oil directly onto the person’s body—but pour it into your hands first. Once the massage has begun, keep your hands on your patient at all times, so as not to surprise him.
5) If the person is not comfortable in his ankles, neck, lower back or shoulders, place some pillows under the ankles, shoulders, the side of the head, and/or under the torso. 6) Steer clear from applying direct pressure on bony parts. 7) Lay down the patient on their tummy on a comfy yet firm surface.
Be sure that you could also reach their entire back sans spraining yours. These back massage techniques provides some benefits like better circulation, resting and letting loose of your tight nerves and muscles, enhanced body awareness and especially stress management and emotional comfort and relaxation. But bear in mind that aside from doing these back massage techniques, there are also warning signals that your body necessitates medical attention.
If you have back pain with considerable weight loss, back pain in the upper part of your spine, or if you’re taking Cortico (steroids) while you’re experiencing pain, then seek professional help right away.
