An effective way of coping with stress is by starting a stress journal which could aid you in recognizing some of the habitual stressors in your life. Of course, it also helps you in coping with stress. As for me, every time I feel stressed, (who says coaches are exempted from getting stressed?) I monitor it on my journal. As I keep my daily record, I began to see some common patterns like:
- What caused you to feel stressed
- How you felt at that time both physically and emotionally--and how you reacted to it
- and what did you do to lessen it.
Having this to guide you, think about how you're presently dealing with stressful moments. advertisement
You may not be aware of it, but there are unhealthy ways of coping with stress; these may indeed minimize tension momentarily, yet they can cause long-term health hazards.
- Procrastinating--activity is a good way of coping with it. The more you keep going, the less stressed you'll feel because you'll feel more productive.
- Sleeping way too much;
- being enslaved by pills/drugs just to help you relax---they do more harm than good, you know
- Drinking too much--not good for your health
- Under-eating or overeating--too much of anything can be a bad thing
- Smoking---bad for your lungs and think of the second hand smoke you'll give off to others--again, bad for you health.
Okay, but maybe just once in a while. - Detaching yourself off from your family and friends and other activities--this is the best time to bond with your fellow human beings when feeling stressed.
- Lashing out your rage (brought about by your being stressed) on others. Give others a break--your stress got nothing to do with them. Okay?
Next blog will tackle about the healthy ways of coping with stress.
