Negotiate Your Way To Success

Tags: , ,

In order to get anything we want in life, we negotiate. Negotiating affects each areas of our lives—from business or career, social or personal. We're all endlessly and continually negotiating about all types of situations and under different circumstances. In general, your success to negotiate would determine your success in life.

So if you really aspire for success, try to increase your negotiation skills today. There are numerous articles and books on all kinds and aspects of negotiating. You can go check it out at your local library or buy a few. Read them and learn from their teachings. This is why it is said that your success or prosperity in life depends on your success in negotiation areas.

Think of all the situations when we are unknowingly negotiating our way. When purchasing a car, for example, we negotiate. We are all aware of this; and most people don’t like buying automobiles maybe because they are not too comfortable with all those negotiation process, most especially when they are up against the persuasive or convincing car salesman who makes it his career to negotiate.

Nevertheless, little do we know that we may already be negotiating at work for salary increases, time off, or for which cubicle or office we are stationed at. Each time we buy or sell an item or service there comes a chance for negotiation. We might also be negotiating every time we talk about which movie to watch with our friends or significant other.

We may even negotiate each moment we try in convincing our partner or companion to go to one restaurant or bar over another. This can go on and on, but you get the picture; we are negotiating almost all the time. Therefore, the more you learn how to negotiate, the more you practice the art of negotiation, and the better and more improved you become at negotiating win-win deals, the more successful you become in your personal and professional life.

Take note that I mentioned that you should be negotiating win-win deals. This is not just about ethics, it is also good business sense. Yes, you do want to negotiate the great deal for yourself, but not at the expense of other people. You should not cheat others, nor you must get the best of them by any deceitful or sneaky means.

You want not just to negotiate ethically, but in ensuring that your reputation for integrity and good deals is known by everyone you come across. You spread out the pie instead of just dividing it. Ideally, you attain what you want by helping the other party to get what they want also.

Negotiation is a skill—so you have to practice and enforce the negotiation skills that you learn. Negotiate some small deals on a regular basis to practice for some of the bigger ones that will soon come along. Some individuals are naturally better than other people, but everyone could still improve.

The more you apply effective negotiating skills, the quicker you would become an effective negotiator.
