7 Tricks On How To Remember People’s Names

Tags: , ,

Basking in cool European sunshine has never been this good. Here, it's the best time to relax, enjoy, de-stress and have fun. And speaking of having fun, one of the great advantages of having a vacation is meeting lots of faces, aside from learning new cultures, languages and savoring different cuisines. Meeting a lot of new people can be great. But for some, remembering names can be quite a challenge, since not all are gifted with good memories especially how to remember people's names. Okay, with this in mind, allow me to give you some tricks on remembering names, especially if you're being introduced to someone new and enhance your business contacts and networks.

  1. You can ask the person how he/she got the name; for example, you can ask, "Vincent, were you named after the saint?"
  2. After knowing a person's name, comment or ask about it; "nice meeting you Wendy; anyway, my best friend's name is also Wendy, so I'll always recall you."
  3. Always mention the person's name again as you leave----"It was great to meet you, Alex."
  4. When being introduced the first time, confirm the first or the last name. "It's a pleasure meeting you, Meryl;" and you can follow it up with "and your last name is...?"
  5. In remembering names, tell the person what you know/heard about him/her---"I heard you're an accomplished writer, Daniel."
  6. Clarify to the person how to spell their names---"Stephanie, do you spell that with an 'f' or 'ph'?"
  7. And lastly, if ever you did forget, handle it graciously.

Try to remember where you met him/her--"Hi, I remembered I met you at a convention in Los Angeles. By the way, I'm Mary Jones; can you tell me your name again?"---that person may have forgotten yours also, and may be thankful for being reintroduced.
See, you don't have to stress yourself in having difficulty about remembering names. It may take practice, but remembering names can save you some awkward moments in your social life.
