Maybe you thought that procrastinating doesn’t really matter a lot and you take it for granted. Like say, starting on a task three days prior to the deadline can be just a piece of cake—plus, it can be quite a challenge, right? Wrong! In reality, we are dealing with a big problem when we talk about procrastination.
And we’re not just talking about low grades and haphazard projects here; when we procrastinate, we let go of those aspects which money can’t buy. I’m talking about the intangible albeit invaluable stuff like time, attention and effort that once lost is gone forever. Okay, so the next topic now is, how do we recognize if a person is procrastinating or not? Or better yet, how can we prevent procrastination? There are signs to watch out for so that we’ll know how to prevent procrastination.

 1. When you think that, you still have enough time, chances are, you DON”T have enough time. Before you realize it, time has already elapsed and your task or project is already due the following day. Take note that as cliché as it may sounds, time indeed is gold and it travels in lightning speed! 2.
Be careful of the “I-work-better-under-pressure” mantra. Okay, so this might be true for some, but one way to prevent procrastination is to move your time (or deadline) a bit forward. You can re-set the deadline for yourself. For example, if your project is to be finished on Thursday, you can condition your mind that your deadline will be on Tuesday.
In this way, you can have more time. 3. To prevent procrastination, do away with your “I’m-just-waiting-for-the-right-mood-to-hit-me” mindset. Don’t be worried that you might not produce better output if your “right mood” doesn’t hit you. Well, you know what? There’s no rule for that since your right mood doesn’t come at a certain time.
But if you really want to bring upon yourself that right mood, you could do some related stuff like reading a book, magazine or write. And who knows, the mood may arrive quick. But to prevent procrastination, just do it and don’t wait for your mood or your Muse to come by and visit you just to get you started.
4. Lastly, if you don’t know how to do your task, then look for a mentor, a friend or colleague to help you out. Making an excuse like this in the things you must do won’t help you on how to prevent procrastination.
